Actor Vishal, who has been fighting villains in movies, has now decided to fight the battle against video piracy.

“Video piracy is bigger than the film industry,” said Actor Vishal told The Hindu after he caught a man selling pirated DVDs of his recently released film Poojai at a shop near the News Bus Stand in Pollachi on Thursday night. “On returning to Pollachi after the ongoing shooting for my film Ambala , I stopped at the shop after seeking a poster of Poojai . Initially, I was of the assumption that it was a poster for the movie’s audio CD. However, I sent my assistant to find out if the CDs of the new film were available,” he said.

The actor recalled that his assistant came back shocked and told him that pirated DVDs of

On a complaint preferred by the actor’s manager N. Senthil Kumar, the Pollachi West Police booked Kalidas (29), the shopkeeper, under Section 63 of the Copyright Act and arrested him.

“I was worried as we spend several crore rupees to bring out a film. But, it is sold in the grey market for a mere 30 to 40 rupees,” he added.

Mr. Vishal said that his shooting is scheduled in Pollachi till December first week.
