A former model, a National Award winning Bollywood actor and now a wife and a mother of two. That is Raveena Tandon for you. The beautiful “Ankhion se goli mare” girl even turned producer for a while with her (now defunct) production house. And now she makes a comeback of sorts with three films under her belt. Raveena was in the Capital recently for the launch of Tommy Hilfiger's children's wear line. The top actress of the '90's was candid in a chat that covered fashion, films, and motherhood.

Why do we see Bollywood heroines either switching to parallel cinema or completely disappearing from the silver screen post marriage?

I can't say about others but as far as I am concerned, I would like to say I made a shift towards realistic cinema much before my marriage. I did much acclaimed films like “Shool”, “Aks”, “Daman”, “Satta”, etc. before I got married and for the simple reason that one cannot keep on doing the same old masala stuff and running around the trees routine forever. A time comes when one needs to satisfy one's creative appetite, and that is why I made the transition.

But marriage and motherhood do play an important role in a woman's life. How has motherhood transformed you?

Oh completely I would say! After becoming a mother I've noticed I have become more compassionate, more caring towards everybody and everything in day-to-day life. Now that I read about some mishaps in newspapers, I am affected by them more than ever. I think motherhood brings a calming effect.

The world also knows you as an animal lover and an active member of PETA. What message do you want to give to your fans on to stop the atrocities being committed against on the animals?

Yes, I love animals and I firmly believe that killing the innocent and the voiceless for the sake of luxury is not justified at any cost. I have always raised my voice against such issues; be it cow skin or snake skin, I firmly condemn its use and never flaunt it on myself also. So I would just advise not to harm animals for personal luxury.

How was the experience working on Revathy's film “Chaassni”? And what are your upcoming projects?

I have three films lined up for release, which include “Chaassni”. I had a wonderful time working with Revathy and all my co-stars from “Chaassni”. The other two include “Agni” and an untitled film. It feels great being back.

What's your take on international brands coming up with exclusive kids ranges? And do you really think that kids are really conscious of the brand they wear?

The kids are not, the parents are. Parents today want to pamper their children with exclusive products and brands. As far as I am concerned, I look out for quality products for my kids and when a brand is offering value for money, then why not?
