Two years after Uliyin Osai, another film scripted by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is all set to hit theatres on Thursday.
Starring Meera Jasmine and Telugu-actor Uday Kiran, the film, Penn Singam, will have all the elements of a family entertainer, said its director Bali Srirengam. The film, based on Mr. Karunanidhi's novel Surulimalai, is an attempt to celebrate womanhood and portray the journey of women who dream big, he said. Unlike the period film Uliyin Osai, Pen Singam is a contemporary movie, which also features song sequences shot overseas. “Mr. Karunanidhi's dialogues are simple but compelling. They pace up the film,” he said.
Bali Srirengam, who has worked as an assistant to actor-director Parthiban, says it is his maiden directorial venture and an honour to work with Mr. Karunanidhi. “He has been very meticulous in shaping up the film. The film will be entertaining and also has a social message on women empowerment.”
