Real on reel
After the recent success of Kacheri Aarambam , Super Good Films' R B Chowdhry is on to his 55th production, Rowthiram . Known to have launched many a new face in the film industry, Chowdhry introduces a slew of newcomers, including director Gokul, in this film too. Jiiva (playing an angry young man) and Shriya Saran essay important roles in the debut vehicle of Gokul, director Suryakiran's protégé. There are heavyweights such as Prakash Raj and Jayaprakash in the cast too.
Says Gokul: “The story is based on an incident I was involved in many years ago. The hero saves a man involved in an accident. The victim dies in hospital, and the hero is accused of his death. The film is all about how the situation changes the hero's behaviour and attitude. Shriya has done a wonderful job too.”

New faces all
Story and dialogue writer A Antony debuts as director with Thenkasi Pakkathule , starring Asmita (of Karungali fame) and new faces Subash and Vishnudev. There's a new comedy duo too — Mannu-Mayan. “They don't have any dialogues; they convey everything through action. While writing the story, the concept of having a comedy duo without any dialogues struck me as unique, and I zeroed in on Mannu, who is actually a co-director, and Mayan, a dancer,” says Antony.
Relationship tangle

While most films have love and romance as an integral part of the storyline, Mazhaikkalam features a different kind of relationship between the hero and heroine. Sanjeevan and Saranya (of Peranmai fame) have deep affection for each other, and respect and sacrifice play an important role in their relationship. But, they end up facing unique problems. “I can't reveal the outcome of their relationship, but it will be unexpected,” assures director Deepan.
Happily ever after?
Most movies with love as focus end with the couple getting married, and supposedly living happily ever after. But, director N. Sundareswaran (of Thozha fame) explores life after marriage in Unakkena Iruppen . “I'm not saying most love marriages end in disasters. But, many couples experience a different life once they tie the knot.”
The film, which progresses from a love story and action flick to a thriller, stars Prabha, Varshini and Iswarya. And, providing the humour quotient are Kanja Karuppu and his team.
