Andha Naal

A mystery thriller set in World War II with the legendary Sivaji Ganesan in the lead role, the film is notable for its sleek storyline, edge-of-the-seat screenplay, stellar casting and amazing performance. I am yet to watch another thriller such as this and have no doubts that many Hitchcock fans will agree.

The 90s youth will remember Heera forever because of this movie (Similar to Jessie in

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa for the present generation). She stole the hearts with her simple charming smile, elegant dressing and minimal dialogues. Pitted against the charming heroine is a hero (brilliantly played by Murali) incapable of expressing his love due to his inferiority complex.

The theme music that is synonymous with Superstar was composed by Deva in this movie and the rest is history. This rags-to-riches story has some epic scenes (like the one that unfolds till he takes over as hotel association chairman) and powerful dialogues that even created political raptures across the state.

Mahanadi

Every time I watch this movie, a lump forms in my throat. As a diehard fan of Kamal Haasan, I consider this to be the best of his to date ( Anbe Sivam is a strong contender). The film narrates the life of a village businessman and the havoc destiny thrusts upon him when he decides to move to a city for giving his children a better education.

Pisasu

As someone who avoids horror genre films, I ended up watching this one only because it was written and directed by one of my favourite directors, Mysskin. The film has amazing screenplay and provides a fresh perspective to the horror genre. The song ‘Pogum Padhai….’ continues to haunt me.
