St. Francis College for Women is once again hosting ‘Drushti', a documentary/ short film festival organised by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.

This year the festival has a line up of 39 short films and documentaries from all over the world. “We have entrants from America, France, and Germany as well as from cities across Indian,” says Pranay Rupani, a co-coordinator of the festival and a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at St. Francis. “Except for seven films by independent filmmakers all the others that are being shown have been sent in by students.” Three animation films created by students as well as films shot by un-educated children as part of a UNICEF project will also be screened.

The festival has been taking place since 2008 and Pranay hopes that through the films viewers will be exposed to new thoughts and subjects and amateur filmmakers encouraged. “In Hyderabad various colleges have courses on Communication and they all create and come up with films,” says Pranay. “The festival aims to create a platform for these youngsters to show their films as well as to forge a form of cultural interaction,” says Pranay.
