It is almost three years since Asin moved to Mumbai lock, stock, and barrel with dreams of making it big in Bollywood. The Hindi remake of Ghajini happened around the time when Asin had made a conscious decision to move to Mumbai. It turned out to be a huge hit. Quickly followed London Dreams with Salman Khan in the lead, after which nothing significant happened, for quite some time.
Says Asin: “I think Ghajini was like a personal benchmark. I was looking for scripts that had a meaty role. Nothing really excited me for a long while. Neither was I willing to compromise just for the sake of doing a Hindi film. I was not in the rat race. So I waited and it has happened, at last.”

Salman and I
Asin is only doing her second film with Salman Khan and the industry grapevine is already abuzz with ‘relationship rumours'. “That's how Bollywood is, I suppose. But, I must say, ours is a very professional relationship. Salman is a wonderful person and very professional in his attitude towards his films and team. He is a hot star and after his last hit

Asin has acted with Vijay in two earlier films — Sivakasi and Pokkiri , both hits.
“The comfort factor is considerable doing films with Salman and Vijay. It is also a coincidence that I am doing my third film with Vijay. There are a lot of romantic scenes which will go down well with the masses,” says Asin.
Bollywood and I
Moving to Mumbai has done Asin a world of good. “Bollywood has taught me resilience. Production is a lot more organised these days with the director allocating responsibilities to people down the line. I don't make it a point to be seen at social events and parties and get photographed for the media unlike many other stars,” says Asin.
Kollywood and I
Of the 16 films Asin has done in the South, 10 are in Tamil. She has left her footprint in the Tamil film industry with films such as M. Kumaran, Son of Mahalakshmi, Ullam Ketkumae and Dasavatharam . Says Asin, “Some of the best films I have done so far are from Chennai. Discipline is something Kollywood has taught me. I am comfortable doing films in Chennai, with people I've known for many years, who respect me for what I am and allow me to enjoy my privacy.”
