Ritu Shivpuri returns to play the antagonist in “Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon”

NEW AVATAR Ritu Shivpuri

After a long break, actor Ritu Shivpuri will be seen in a negative role in a television serial. After making her debut with Govinda’s Aankhen, Ritu, daughter of eminent actor Om Shivpuri, could not find a foothold in Hindi film industry. And after a series of duds in Hindi and Kannada films, she diminished from the scene.

Talking about her comeback with Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon on Star Plus, Ritu says, “Indrani Narayan Vashisht, the antagonist has many shades. She is a kind of negative person but whatever wrong she does, there is a reason behind it. She is evil but she is also a loving and caring mother. It is an interesting character for one day you will fall in love with her and the next day you will hate her.”

On her traditional avatar in the show, Ritu says, “I love my new look as I like wearing saris in personal life. These days most of us like comfortable clothing, So we put on jeans and top and go to work. But, now, I am having great fun wearing traditional stuff because someone else drapes it,” she laughs. “The overall look in the show is very ethnic yet modern,” she adds.

Reflecting on her career, Ritu says she draws inspiration from her parents. “They were the most wonderful human beings, and two amazing actors. There were lot of struggles and difficulties in my life but if you smile and hold your head high, there is always a better tomorrow and there is nothing difficult to get through. If you keep faith, things fall into place eventually,” she muses.

She has prepared well for her second innings. “There was lot of briefing, and reading sessions were conducted before the shoot. The main motive was to understand the character. It is one one of the strongest character you will witness on television. And the challenge is that I am quite different from her. I am a dynamic person and I like to take challenges but acting is all about getting into somebody’s skin who is not like you and think through her mind and heart.”
