Ricky Gervais to play a wizard in ‘Galavant’

Funnyman Ricky Gervais will make a rare television guest appearance in ‘Galavant’

The 53-year-old comedian has been cast as a wizard named Xanax in a season one episode of the ABC fantasy series, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Gervais most recently completed ‘Derek’s second series, and has also announced plans to spin off his ‘Office’ character David Brent for a feature film.

‘Galavant’ stars Joshua Sasse as a knight who returns to his kingdom to take revenge on the monarch who stole his true love.

The ABC series will also welcome John Stamos, Hugh Bonneville and ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic in early first season episodes.

‘Galavant’ will premiere in the mid-season as a replacement for

‘Once Upon a Time’.
