More establishments are catering to the city’s need for escapism, either through a dish or a dance floor

With over 150 hotspots opening in the last year, Hyderabad is revving itself to liken its resto-bar scene to Delhi and Mumbai. Emerging trends within spaces among various neighbourhoods in the city speak in various voices to party-lovers, date-goers and those chilling after hours.

Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Film Nagar present the likes of Moonshine and Prost, which have supplied Hyderabadis with a literal ‘lose yourself’ vibe through their maze-like design concept. Their multi-level structures, featuring areas with various themes and music, effectively keep their clientele seated and satisfied, with some element of privacy while still having the allure of being out for the night.

There is something inherently intriguing about these spaces, and lighting is integral. Clever design pulls natural light into every corner while still retaining the exterior’s enigma as people drive by. Upward lighting gives these places behemoth sizing and a fascinating play of light and dark.

Organic elements such as creeping vines and landscape artworks give these spaces a dimension of escapism. Granted, a lot of the vegetation is fake but appearance is all you need to trigger a wildness during your outing.

A lot of these places abide by escapism through the stomach too, presenting diverse menus with plenty of sharer platters for the social butterflies of the scene. From peckish hummus to the indulgent Italian, these munchables are a fair part of the strategies to keep us in confines of the venues until closing time, and we eat it right up.

Remarkably, this theme of enigma runs from the moment these places open their doors till they yell out last call. The room-to-room design is a great lure for kids as well as for private occasion events, like birthdays. It’s interesting to see how these finds, which are smack in the middle of the city, offer up a healthy serving of escapism from the city confines.

Farmhouse antics

In spite of movies like Cabin in the Woods , more city folk are revelling in the sovereign of a farmhouse outside the city. While these shin-digs lack the glam and the service of the uptown, the connection attendees make with their surroundings is more meaningful and organic- no pun intended.

The major plus point of farmhouse partying is the minimum effort and maximum output — the simple notion of ‘bring your own insert-product-here’ serves not as a rule but as a means of garnering community-driven creativity. An inevitable plus point is how farmhouse parties are exempt from the party-pooping curfew with which majority of the city is saddled.

These getaways also mean more finger-food and homely dishes, such as biryanis and barbecues, giving attendees a ‘home away from home’ feel, without the stress.
