Come December and there’s no dearth of Yuletide performances by various choirs around the city. A concert in February, however, hosted by an award-winning college choir, Serenata Chorale of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, is a treat for music lovers.
The 70-member ensemble, conducted by Amy Sara Joseph, will be hosting their annual concert, Resound, where they will perform both classical and contemporary music. In addition to their presentation of nine songs covering various genres including classical, pop, and R&B songs in regional languages. The concert will also provide a platform for talented music groups, bands, and other choirs of Bengaluru, such as The Bangalore Conservatory Choir, Reverb, Gospel Addicts, and JNC choir, among others, to unite in the name of music. The show is set to conclude with a number performed by all the musical groups present.
Serenata Chorale has been on a winning streak, at every competition they’ve performed at. Their latest achievements include winning the first place at the Basel Mission Christmas Music Competition, and the Rice Memorial Church Christmas Competition in December, 2017.

Jacob George, a first year student who sings in the bass section of the choir says, “Organising the concert has been a Herculean task. As a choir, we raise funds for the concert on our own through sponsorships by various firms and individuals. With the budget this year being higher than usual, raising funds to conduct the concert was particularly difficult as we were unable to find a title sponsor and a co-sponsor. Practice began in October. All of us students have worked extremely hard. The pressure of balancing academics and practice, has been immense but the liveliness in the atmosphere has helped ease the stress. Behind what the audience sees lie countless hours of practice, prayers and a thousand emotions.”
Every year the proceeds of this annual concert go towards charity. “This time the proceeds will be split between The Devadasi Project, a charity which undertakes the funding of education and day-to-day expenses of children who live in hostels in and around North Karnataka, and the Peace Children’s Home in RT Nagar,” says Jacob.
‘Resound 2018’ will be held at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Brigade Road, on February 25, at 5 pm. Tickets are priced at ₹150 and will be sold at the venue. Limited parking on the premises is available on a first-come first-served basis.
