When Super 30 ’s trailer opens with the narrator imploring the audience to find out about the Indians who head some of the world’s biggest corporations like PepsiCo and Google, it is hard to imagine that the film is about a Patna-based mathematician who trains underprivileged students for IIT.
But with Hrithik Roshan in the lead, the elaborate trailer moves convincingly.
Directed by Vikas Bahl and co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the movie traces the journey of mathematician Anand Kumar, who trains a batch of 30 underprivileged students, popularly known as ‘Super 30’, for free every year for entry into the coveted Indian Institute of Technology.

The trailer was released on Tuesday by actor Hrithik Roshan via his Twitter handle. “Not all Superheroes wear capes. It’s the ideas that make a nation. It’s the people who empower it. Presenting one such story from the heartland of India,” he tweeted.
The clip starts with Hrithik, a newly recruited teacher in a coaching class, asking a student about his interests. When the student says that he wants to be a computer engineer, Hrithik’s character replies with a laugh saying, “Ban jayega (It shall be done).”
As he continues to mint money and the coaching centre’s popularity soars, a scene shows Hrithik looking introspectively at his bundle of cash. He is hit by the fact that a number of underprivileged kids have the talent but no resources to pursue their dreams. He then decides to open his own training centre which provides free coaching to such students.

A disgruntled Aditya Srivastava, who plays the head of the coaching centre, accuses Hrithik of ‘cheating’. But he replies fervently, “And what do you call what destiny did to these children?” As he starts training a batch of 30 students, the actor delivers a slew of affecting monologues referring to the divide between the rich and the poor. Dramatic touches, overwhelming monologues follow in the trailer.
With side-swept hair, neatly tucked-in shirt and a convincing accent, Hrithik makes his entry into the biopic genre. The cast also includes Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Tripathi, Nandish Singh and Amit Sadh. The film is set for release on July 12.
