It was the simplicity of the script that was the strength. “I banked on it and it paid off. Every scene in the movie is what I have seen in real life. I just packaged it using the power of the media,” is what a modest Tharn Bhascker Dhaassyam, the director of Pellichoopulu had to say.
Coming back from New Delhi after receiving national awards for being the best regional film and for its dialogues, the team members showcased their achievement with a hint of pride, on Thursday.
The director’s debut full-length feature film has grabbed so much attention since it hit the screens on March 29, 2016 that it made even the big guns come and watch it.

Proud moment
The team led by the director, producers Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni and the heroine Ritu Varma proudly showed off the two national awards that they received at New Delhi on Wednesday — best regional film and for the best dialogues, 2017.
“We have been oh-so-busy talking to people, receiving awards that included the prestigious B. Nagi Reddy Memorial Award for 2016. And of course, going to the banks. But even a year after our film released, the fact that it is being spoken about and is continuing to draw attention is what makes us happy,” said the producers Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni.

No blame
“Frankly, we never thought about this much of fame at any point of the production. Tarun said he had run around several producers and the moment it was narrated to us, we believed in simplicity of the strength of his subject,” they added.
“I would not blame any of the producers I met earlier. It could have been several reasons — dates not matching, their own perception of my simple script and being a small budget, or their being busy in other projects,” said Tarun.
