Rajinikanth offers his prayers to Athi Varadar idol in Kancheepuram

'Darbar' actor also calls his contemporary Ajith to congratulate him on the success of ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’

Actor-politician Rajinikanth visited Kancheepuram on Wednesday to offer his prayers to the Athi Varadar idol at the Sri Devarajaswamy temple, that is drawing thousands every day from all over the world.

With just three days to go for the devotees to offer darshan before the idol is immersed back into the pond at the temple, the actor along with his wife Latha was spotted on Wednesday morning at the temple premises. Rajinikanth, naturally, caused a fluster among the crowds thronging the temple, though the Darbar actor only stayed for a short while.

He was honoured with a garland around his neck and a shawl by the temple. It is the 44th day of darshan and the 13th day of the Athi Varadar idol in the ninra thirukolam (standing pose). The idol is removed from the temple pond only every 40 years.

Rajinikanth was given a VVIP darshan and also sat in front of the idol for a few minutes, while the police amped up security around the area to avoid any crowd problems. Several pictures taken by fans at the temple are doing the rounds on social media. Earlier this week, actor Trisha with her friends had also visited the temple and shared a picture from the same on social media.

Meanwhile, the Superstar is busy shooting his next film Darbar under the direction of A.R. Murugadoss, that also stars the likes of Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty among others. The film, that has music by Anirudh Ravichander, is expected to have a Pongal release in 2020.

The actor also recently watched Ajith’s Nerkonda Paarvai at his residence and called Ajith to congratulate him on the movie’s message and success.
