Yeidhavan deals with the need for reform in higher education in our country, says debut director Sakthi Rajasekaran

The names of the main characters in debut Sakthi Rajasekaran’s upcoming film Yeidhavan bear character names from The Mahabharata — Krishna (protagonist, played by Kalaiarasan), Dharma, Sarathy, Gaurav and Karna. “I chose these names with a reason,” says Sakthi. Yeidhavan deals with one person’s misdeed, and its repercussions on the others.

Sakthi, who assisted Vikram Sugumaran in Madha Yaanai Koottam , later started working on the script of Yeidhavan , which deals with unethical practices and the need for greater reform in education, as he was keen on making a film that creates some social awareness.

“The script has three lead actors, and the story is narrated from three different points of view. Impressed with the script, Kalaiarasan agreed to work with me without suggesting any changes in the original script,” says Sakthi. “He was impressed by the two negative characters in the script — that of Dharma and Gaurav — and was keen on doing one of those.”

According to Sakthi, the film focusses exclusively on medical education, and the travails that a middle-class family undergoes to educate a child in a medical college. “Any current issues pertaining to medical education — NEET, admission procedures, sky-rocketing donation for MBBS seats — and certain other aspects will be highlighted in the film,” he says.

Dubbing artist Gautham (he dubbed for Prabhas in Baahubali ) makes his debut as actor in Yeidhavan . Satna Titus, who was last seen in Pichaikaaran , plays a police officer while Krishna ( Poova Thalaiya ) has made a comeback in this film.

Yeidhavan is a suspense thriller, with limited stunt sequences, but with a potential to engage the audience until the end, says Sakthi. Paartav Barggo (brother of singer Anuradha Sriram) has composed the music. “His BGM plays a major role in the film’s narration,” says Sakthi.
