This Kevin Costner-movie effectively breaks stereotypical notions about tribal lifestyles. There is also an unmistakable earnestness in his performance as a man of impeccable determination and enthusiasm. He has directed the movie as well.

12 Angry Men

12 Angry Men

A gripping drama that never really does leave you out of the court room. One of the elements that helps the movie rise above the ordinary is Reginald Rose’s water-tight script.

Trainspotting

Trainspotting

The movie hits hard at the social stigma of drug addiction and uses humour as a tool to address deep-set prejudices. Danny Boyle’s stylish direction provides an adrenaline rush. It also becomes inevitable to mention Ewan McGregor & co’s terrific acting.

Il Postino (The Postman)

Il Postino

A movie where the messenger becomes the message in the end. Camaraderie between the poet-in-exile (Pablo Neruda) and Mario (one who gets mail to Neruda) is truly amazing. Mario learns about metaphors from the master poet and goes on to win his lady love through his mastery of metaphors. A must-see movie for its flow of emotions without any artistic compromises.
