Last January, Brahmanandam was ‘Doberman’ in Khaidi No 150. This January, he will be seen as Achari in Achari America Yatra. Woven around his character, the film directed by Nageswar Reddy is releasing on January 26. So it is expected that people will address him as ‘Achari’ after the release, considering the amount of content written on him. “I used to be called Khan Dada and Mcdowell Murthy, this is a common phenomenon whenever a particular character is a hit with the audiences. I am also optimistic about this particular project,” says Brahmanandam.
Isn’t the role of an achari a familiar one for this ace comedian? People still remember his role as Bhattu and the combination with Chari (played by NTR) in the blockbuster Adhurs . Brahmanandam clarifies, “There is no similarity. This character that I am playing will be useful to the hero and heroine for their marriage. He is an ‘intelligent amayakudu ’. Director Nageswar Reddy is good at eliciting hilarious performances, the way he has executed this one is commendable. Since the title refers to a community, he took great care to see no one is offended. Pragya Jaiswal and Vishnu have done a good job. I don’t think I can reveal much at this stage.”

For the film, Brahmanandam spent 14 days in America and 15 days in Hyderabad, a few in Malaysia. So is there any special song for you? “No, we just keep jumping around in the songs. It is all Vishnu and Pragya Jaiswal.”
Brahmanandam is aware of the criticism that of late, his roles have been routine. So he waited and picked this one. “I’m being careful about my choices now,” he says.
Brahmanandam is spending a lot of time with his grandson these days. He corrects that it isn’t him, it is his grandson Partha who is pending time with him. As a parting shot he says, “He is so small, he is just recognizing and jumping. Wonder how he knows I am a comedian. He laughs the moment he sees me.”

His next few projects going on floors are MLA , and yet untitled films directed by Paruchuri Murali Sreenu Vytla and Anil Ravipudi.
