Lavanya Tripathi: ‘Not scared of failure’

A line-up of interesting films in her kitty keeps Lavanya Tripathi happy and busy

Lavanya Tripathi is not the one to laze around on an off day. A very disciplined person she starts her day early, goes to the gym and makes sure she’s not on the phone too much. She informs that she deleted all the apps on her phone that were interfering with her space. A wise thing, considering that social media was nasty when there was a gap in her career.

She says, “There was a time when I had been rejecting uninteresting films. I just can’t do any film that comes my way. For me the story and director of the film matter the most. Luckily all my films have done well and I am not scared of failures, it is just that I don’t want to disappoint my fans. If I am doing a role in a certain film, it means I have to be remembered. The social media is irksome and I have been very successful in turning my head away from it. I want people to talk about my work and not my personal life. Once I am done with the shoot I am back at hotel and spend time with a small group of friends I have.”

Lavanya was in the news recently when she signed a film with Naga Chaitanya. That apart, she has two films releasing this month,

Radha and Mayavan . A poster of Sharwanand had just released and she is all praise for director Chandra Mohan and hero Sharwanand. She gushes, “Sharwa’s character is very interesting. He is playing a cop and his name is Radha Krishna. I am Radha too in the story. It is a rom-com with a twist. This is the director’s first film so I am not really sure how much I can reveal..he will be disappointed if I talk much. All I can say is I am playing a college student.”

Sreerasthu Subhamasthu and Soggade Chinni Nayana did very well and Lavanya is mighty pleased. The latter is releasing soon in Tamil as well and she is curious to know how it fares in Chennai. Mayavan is a CV Kumar’s film; he made Pizza and Soodhu Kavum. He is a producer and this is the first time he is directing a movie, a science fiction. In this movie, Lavanya plays a psychiatrist who is treating the hero. How she helps him with his issues forms the story. “Sandeep Kishan is a cop and I play a subtle role and I cannot show too many emotions. I watched a lot of crime and horror stories earlier and it has helped me. I had to keep a poker face throughout as the doctor is constantly observing the patient.It is gripping and an emotionally high story.”

The actor finds Sreenu Vytla to be an amazing director and she thoroughly enjoyed playing a traditional role where she was required to smile, laugh and not cry at all. Does it bother her when people call her a second lead in any project? “It is weird that whenever there are two girls in the movie, the media calls one of the girls as a second heroine or second lead. In

Mister , Hebah has such a good role and it is such an important one, one should be calling her a parallel lead. We give our best and they call us second lead... it does affect us, it feels like a demotion, they are degrading us.”

Surging ahead

Lavanya made her debut in Telugu with ‘Andala Rakshasi’.

After Kajal Aggarwal who acted with a father-son duo, Lavanya follows suit. After acting opposite Nagarjuna, she teams up with Naga Chaitanya next.
