Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ is the internet's newest dance anthem

English singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran’s new single Shape of You is now coming in all shapes and sizes.

Released in January 2017, the song has been topping the music charts in nearly 30 countries and has gone platinum — meaning one million units sold — in 14 countries.

Something about the marimba beats in the song seems to have caught people’s attention though, because

Shape of You has now spawned a whole set of dance covers, including a classical Odissi adaptation, that have quickly gone viral on social media.

First, there was the set of four boys from IIT-Roorkee who desperately wanted a date for Valentine’s Day. Spoiler alert, they didn’t get it, despite their amazing dancing skills.

 

And then last week, two young women wowed the internet with some eye-popping hip-hop moves.

 

A tourism start-up from Odisha then got into the act with a beautiful Odissi cover that has been all over Facebook the last week.

 

It also got a bhangra makeover, which may or may not be slightly hypnotic to watch.
