Ideally interior decor elements of a company should reflect its identity subtly and yet drive home the point. ‘What’s in a name’ is an eight-year old startup in the digital marketing and advertising arena whose compact workspace is utilised judiciously to create that effect. Advertising and marketing are about being concise, the space located on the third floor of the Empire Square building stays true to that idea visually. Right from how the wall at their reception warrants our attention with a car whose number plate dates to the founding day of the company to the counterbalancing use of yellow and white hues in the workspace, the startup proves you don’t need to overdo to impress.

Four months into this workspace, one of the reasons ‘What’s in a name’ shifted out of its previous space (a villa) was to ensure a flexible setup catering both to their multifarious clients and energies of a young team. The walls on the either side of the workspace come with two words in bold-’comm-new-nicate’ and ‘exec-you-te’. These are displayed on different ends to signify employee goals on a daily basis - ‘you communicate only to execute’. The flexible furniture varies from a bean bag to other seating arrangements, ‘comfort’ being the prime criteria.
- What: Digital marketing/advertising firm
- Where: Jubilee Hills
- Area: 2800 square feet, 34 workstations
The firm uses quirky motifs to signify their digital identity as well, the washrooms for the ladies reads ‘G+’, for the men-it’s the symbol for Google blog; the pantry section sports the logo of ‘Pinterest’. The design with respect to the conference room is minimalistic in comparison, an obvious reason to balance the energies within the space. Yet, there’s enough room for the employees to get creative within their workstations-a wide range of stickers, quotes splattered in various backgrounds lend a chirpiness to the space.

“When I think of interiors, it’s about enhancing the overall vibe of the space, making it a little more lively. Yellow signifies creativity, that’s the aspect that makes an office feel more than the sum of four concrete walls. It helps us come to work with much more enthusiasm. You’re attracted to the work you do, but I also wanted the interiors to disconnect from directly referencing our arena. The corporate outlook to our setup was necessary to break the randomness that the field comes with,” Rajive Dhavan, co-founder of the firm adds.
