Creativity is not bound by time. It flows seamlessly across eras and ages, for time and space are not linear. The past, the present and the future are all contained in ‘this’ moment: the eternal now. This philosophy forms the basis of veteran sculptor Satish Gupta’s latest body of work, which is being showcased, as Transcending Eternity, by Gallery Art and Soul. The works are based on three conceptual elements: Vishnu, Shiva and Devi. Gupta explains, “Vishnu represents the ever-expanding supernova with energy flowing out; whereas Shiva represents the black hole at the centre of the galaxy absorbing the constant flow, contracting and coalescing till it finally bursts into a Supernova spewing out tremendous energy again. This dynamic energy manifests itself as the Shakti of Lakshmi, Durga and Saraswati or collectively the Devi. This is the premise of my new collection. I have sought to carry forward the living traditions of art that began from a human being painting in his cave and moved on through Michelangelo and Picasso and continues till today.”
In keeping with his quest for innovation, Gupta has accorded newer dimensions to his work by slicing through rigid rules to manifest a new vision. He has come up with a new technique of ‘sculptureart’ where he has merged the second and third dimensions i.e. the flat and round to create a unique style.
