From clay, wood to papier mache, dolls recounting old-time fables come alive in a variety of materials at the ‘Kolu Toys Fair,' which got under way at the Poompuhar showroom on Anna Salai here on Monday. Sets of clay-made characters are the prime attraction at the exhibition.

Apart from the mythological statuettes, there are also contemporary dolls with interesting themes. Even the usual ‘Dasavatharam' and ‘Ashtalakshmi' sets come with some aesthetic additions. Rajasthan's popular Copa dolls and Andhra Pradesh's Kondapalli toys are new additions this year.

Over 3,000 dolls, with 500 sets of different kinds are on display at the exhibition. Income Tax Chief Commissioner Prema Malini Vasan inaugurated the exhibition. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till October 17. There is a 10 per cent discount on products displayed at the exhibition at the showroom on Anna Salai.
