Almost 90 per cent votes recorded in 59 assembly constituencies in Tripura that went to poll on Sunday. Khowai district topped the list of eight districts with 92.19 per cent casting.
In 2013 assembly election votes recorded at 93 per cent which was a national record. State’s election officials said the figure might go beyond after by-poll at Charilam constituency due on March 12. Postal ballots were also not included in the calculation which would be added on the counting day.
“We have now final report on votes polled on Sunday. It is 89.96 per cent”, Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Taranikanti told newsmen here on Monday night.

He stated that the election commission has not ordered re-poll in any of 3174 polling centres of the state. Some political parties earlier demanded re-poll in some booths alleging malpractice.
Mr. Taranikanti also corrected on information furnished immediately after poll on faulty EVMs replaced during election exercise. He now said there were 203 replacements of EVM.
According to information supplied by the CEO, Khowai is followed by South Tripura district where 91.72 percent votes polled.

In other districts: West Tripura 89.61per cent, Sepahijala 90.47 per cent, Dhalai 89.49 per cent, Unakoti 88.49 per cent and Gomati 90.44 per cent. North Tripura recorded lowest 87.25 per cent.
By election in Charilam will be conducted on March 12 due to death of CPI(M) candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma. CPI(M) on Monday declared that its youth front leader Palash Debbarma would contest from the seat.
