‘Industrial growth has stalled; investors moving to neighbouring States’

Sharing the stage with DMK chief M. Karunanidhi for the first time in over five years, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on Thursday, slammed the AIADMK government for failing to help the people during the December floods and supporting the anti-people policies of the Centre in Parliament.

“The AIADMK government did not help the people [during the floods]. It was the people who helped each other,” she charged. When the DMK was in power in Tamil Nadu, the State was in news for the innumerable industries the government brought. But now, growth had virtually come to an end.

“Factories are shutting down every day and investors have moved to neighbouring States.

The youth are suffering without jobs,” she alleged. Ms. Gandhi accused the AIADMK government and the BJP-led Centre of encouraging anti-people policies.

While the BJP government has cut down spending on crucial social welfare schemes, the AIADMK continued to extend its support to the BJP in Parliament.

Hailing the promise of prohibition made by the DMK alliance, she urged the voters to bring back the party to power.
