Expressing happiness over the Congress going it alone in the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu and thereby not having to make any “compromise,” party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the party will fight to come to power in the State.
“I am happy to see the workers all charged up and ready to fight the elections under the Congress banner. Now we will not have to compromise and we will fight not only the Lok Sabha elections butalso fight to come to power in Tamil Nadu and form a Congress government here. We are going to give the people of Tamil Nadu the type of government they deserve,” he said addressing an election rally at Ramanathapuram.
Appealing to the people not to vote for the regional parties in Tamil Nadu, as they were not the ones going to form the government at the Centre, he said the voters should ensure a secular regime is formed in Delhi.

Taking on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Mr. Gandhi said while Mr. Modi was talking about the Gujarat model every where, he should take time to come and see the Tamil Nadu model at work, which was better in many aspects.
“We do not need a government that promotes hatred and anger. We do not need a government that makes Hindus fight with Muslims. We do not need a government that imposes ideas of one State on another,” he pointed out.
Mr. Gandhi said it would be a priority of the Congress-led government to solve the issues of Tamil Nadu fishermen, including those with the Sri Lankan Navy.
