Stalin targets Alagiri

In an apparent reference to the statements of the rebel DMK leader, M.K. Alagiri, the party’s treasurer and younger brother, M.K. Stalin, said on Sunday that the candidates selected for the Lok Sabha elections were all approved by the high command.

Without mentioning Mr. Alagiri’s name, he said the functionaries who were loyal to the party alone had been given ticket. Seeking votes for DMK candidates V. Velusamy, who is contesting from Madurai, and Pon. Muthuramalingam from Theni, he said they had dedicated themselves to the growth of the party for years.

Stone-pelting?

Mr. Stalin, who started his campaign from Melur, addressed wayside meetings at eight points before reaching the venue of a public meeting at Anaiyur here.

When he was speaking at Palanganatham from his vehicle, DMK workers caught hold of a man claiming that he threw a stone at Mr. Stalin.

The Hindu that the man was standing in the crowd with his family members listening to the speech. He was suspected to be inebriated. There was no such incident of stone-pelting as per the preliminary probe, he said.
