Raking up the "snoopgate" controversy in a bid to corner Narendra Modi, Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday attacked the BJP prime ministerial candidate for his 'double standards' on women empowerment.
While referring to the alleged spying on a woman on the orders of the Gujarat government, Ms. Vadra appealed women voters to "throw out those leaders" who "disrespect" them.
"If they (BJP) talk about women empowerment, the women need to know how they plan to do it. (But) why then listen to their private phone conversations? Give us power as individuals," a combative Ms. Vadra said in Rae Bareli.

Ms. Vadra, who is campaigning in the constituency for her mother, questioned the BJP's 'double standards' on women empowerment. She stressed that women empowerment was not a "favour" to be sought but the "right" of women.
"If they (BJP) are concerned about women empowerment, then they should empower them (women) by giving reservation," she said. Instead, the BJP was indulging in "spreading poison" and "personal attacks," Ms. Vadra said.
Continuing her attack on Mr. Modi, without naming him, she questioned the BJP for projecting the Gujarat Chief Minister as the solution for all of India's problems.

"If power is concentrated into the hands of one person is it right? What is the ideal situation? Power should be in the hands of the people," she said.
Ms. Vadra also questioned the BJP on how it planned to remove corruption while claiming that with the implementation of the RTI Act, the Congress had "shown the way" in fighting corruption.
Hitting out at the BJP for its "personal attacks" against her family members she claimed that this was a tactic to divert people from real issues.
