April 09, 2014 08:26 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:26 pm IST - GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI

Nagaland recorded the highest polling with 84.64 per cent votes

Moderate to heavy polling was recorded on Wednesday for six Lok Sabha seats in the four north-eastern States of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur and in 49 constituencies of the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.

Nagaland recorded the highest turnout with 84.64 per cent votes being cast for the lone Lok Sabha seat.

In Meghalaya, around 66 per cent turnout was recorded while there was 77.43 per cent turnout in one of the Lok Sabha seats in Manipur. Arunachal Pradesh recorded over 71 per cent polling for its two seats — Arunachal East and Arunachal West and 49 assembly seats.

Since there were still queues at most of the polling station and reports were yet to be collated from the remote corners of the State, the EC expects the final figure to be higher, compared to the 68 per cent voting registered during the 2009 general elections.

Incidents of violence owing to local rivalry were reported from seven places in Arunachal Pradesh.
