Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday rejected the view that there was a “Modi wave” sweeping the country. That, he said, was a creation of the media.
“Well, I don’t think the Congress is losing ground,” he told journalists after casting his vote at the Dispur Government Higher Secondary School here in the city under Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency. “We will have to wait till the end of the election process.”
He claimed that the Congress would win the majority of the seats in Assam. Assam has a total of 14 seats, of which the Congress won seven in 2009. The final phase of the election in the State in six Lok Sabha seats began at 7 a.m.

“I have come to Guwahati to exercise my right as a citizen of this great country. I am confident that the democratic process of the country is firmly established and I urge all citizens to cast their votes,” said Dr. Singh, who has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha since 1991.
His wife Gursharan Kaur said that it was “a great feeling” to cast her vote here. Dr. Singh and Ms. Kaur arrived at the polling station around 12.35 p.m. They left the polling booth less than ten minutes later.
