Lok Sabha polls | AAP, BJP declare more candidates from Punjab

The Bharatiya Janata Party declared three names while the Aam Aadmi Party announced four more candidates from Punjab for the 2024 Lok Sabha election

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday released another list of their candidates from Punjab for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The AAP announced four more candidates, which include three sitting MLAs - Jagdeep Singh Brar from Ferozepur Parliamentary seat, Amansher Singh Kalsi from Gurdaspur, and Ashok Parashar from Ludhiana Parliamentary constituency. With its latest list, the party has announced its candidates for all 13 Lok Sabha seats that has as many as eight sitting legislators and among them are five cabinet Ministers.

The AAP has fielded former MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu from the Jalandhar. Mr. Tinu recently joined the AAP after leaving the Shiromani Akali Dal.

As the ruling AAP is seeking votes on its performance and policies in the State, and has fielded eight legislators including Ministers, the popularity of the party, which registered a landslide victory in the 2022 Assembly election, and the prestige of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who is leading the election campaign would be at the stake.

The election for the 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab will be held on June 1.

Separately, the BJP declared three more names of its candidates for Punjab in which it replaced Union Minister Som Parkash from Hoshiarpur with his wife Anita Som Parkash. The BJP also announced the field former 2011 batch IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu from Bathinda constituency. Mrs. Kaur recently resigned from the service and joined the BJP. She is the daughter-in-law of the senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sikandar Singh Maluka. Bathinda is currently represented by SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, wife of former Deputy Chief Minister and Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Manjeet Singh Manna would be BJP’s candidate from Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency. In Punjab, the BJP so far has announced nine candidates of the 13 Lok Sabha seats. The party is yet to declare candidates for Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, and Sangrur seats.
