Dharmapuri Collector directs Superintendent of Police to initiate penal action

Dharmapuri District Election Officer and Collector S. Malarvizhi has directed the Superintendent of Police to examine a violation of the Model Code of Conduct by PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss while filing his nomination papers here.

Mr. Anbumani, who is contesting from the Dharmapuri Parliamentary constituency as part of the AIADMK-led alliance, addressed journalists at the doorway of the Collectorate building on the ground floor, accompanied by Higher Education Minister K.P. Anbalagan.

Besides, hundreds of party cadre were ferried in tempos and lorries till the gate of the Collectorate, which was barely 35 m from the doorway of the Collectorate building and the chambers of the Returning Officer. A little over 100 cadre made it to the doorway when Mr. Anbumani submitted his papers to Ms. Malarvizhi, the Returning Officer.

In contrast, after Mr. Anbumani left, the police imposed restrictions on a motley group that had come with Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate Rukmani Devi to file nomination papers.

When asked about this, Ms. Malarvizhi said: “I have ordered penal action for the violation and directed the SP to fix responsibility, since there were some 30 police personnel stationed at the spot. Ultimately, the candidate is answerable for the code violation, and a case will be filed as per the MCC statute books.”
