BJP releases report card for Maharashtra

Most of the 100 promises made in 2014 have been fulfilled, says party spokesperson.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released a report card of its performance past five years claiming to have fully met the promises made during the 2014 elections in Maharashtra.

The party claims to have fulfilled the promise to implement the cow slaughter prevention laws while implementing the policy for building cowsheds across the state.

A copy of the card will be distributed to the voters in every constituency the party is contesting in, along with the latest manifesto, which is likely to be released soon, the party said.

After releasing the report card, party leadership claimed it has made the state load-shedding free and even removed the Local Body Tax (LBT), as was promised in the previous manifesto.

Among other promises fulfilled were giving 12-hour power supply to agriculture and industrial sector, reservation for Maratha community, reservation for the poor basis income levels, among others.

“We had made near 100 promises to the voters last elections and have fulfilled most,” said party’s senior spokesperson Madhav Bhandari, while releasing the 25-page Report Card of BJP performances in Maharashtra.

The report card enlists achievements which include beginning the construction of the Ambedkar Memorial at Mumbai’s Indu Mill, pension for retired journalists and pension for farmers.

“There was no tradition in Maharashtra so far to issue such a report card on the performance of the party’s governance. But we are doing so in order to maintain communication and transparency with the voter,” said Mr Bhandari.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Congress also released a ‘Youth Manifesto’ to connect with near three crore youngsters in the state. The manifesto, released on Saturday, is titled ‘Wake up Maharastra, Act Today for Your Tomorrow: Youth Manifesto -Maharashtra 4.0’.

It includes promises on education loan waiver, newer youth hostels, guarantee for education loans, among others. The party is also promising 80% job reservation for youth in the state government, a world-class sports university and free public transport for students.
