Exit polls project a majority for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jharkhand and a hung verdict in Jammu and Kashmir with the People’s Democratic Party emerging as the single largest in that State as elections to the two Assemblies concluded on Saturday.

The India TV-CVoter exit polls projected 37 to 45 seats for the BJP and its ally, the All Jharkhand Students’ Union, in the 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly. Today’s Chanakya projected a saffron sweep, giving the party 61 seats with a margin of eight either way.

The BJP is, however, likely to fall much short of its mission — 44 seats in the 87-member J&K Assembly. India TV put its likely tally at 27 to 33 with 25 to 31 seats coming from the Jammu region.

It projected the third place for the National Conference with eight to 14 seats. The PDP is projected to get 32 to 38 seats. The Congress would win just four to 10 seats.
