Bangladesh start with a win in the ODI series

Fresh from their annihilation in the two-Test series against hosts West Indies, Bangladesh started off with a win in the ODI series, a format more to their liking.

After Tamim Iqbal (130) and Shakib Al Hasan (97) put on 207 for the second wicket to lead their side to 279 for four in their 50 overs, captain Mashrafe Mortaza led the bowling effort with figures of four for 37 as the visitors won the game by 48 runs.

Sri Lanka win second Test by 199 runs

Theunis de Bruyn (101) and Temba Bavuma (63) put on a 123-run stand for the sixth wicket, but it only delayed the inevitable as Sri Lanka won the second Test against South Africa by 199 runs and the series 2-0.

Rangana Herath was the hero for the hosts as he finished with figures of six for 98 in the second innings as the match played in Colombo ended in the second session of day four.

Johnson beats Ramkumar to win Newport title

American third seed Steve Johnson defeated first-time ATP finalist Ramkumar Ramanathan 7-5 3-6 6-2 to win the Hall of Fame Open in the grass courts of Newport.

Ramkumar was trying to become India’s first ATP singles title winner since Leander Paes had achieved the feat in Newport 20 years ago, but failed at the final hurdle against Johnson.
