Holidays, ice creams and good times with family and friends – these make summer one of the best seasons in the year. Going on vacations in summer could be a thrilling experience and an opportunity to explore new places, different cultures and meet new people. It is also an occasion to bond with your loved ones and create unforgettable memories.

Movies on adventures and vacations could give you an idea, if you are going on a vacation. Even if you are not, these films could help spend your summer at home in an exciting manner. A few movies you could watch this summer.

Leap (2017)

Originally titled Ballerina, this film deals with the story of an orphan girl, Félicie, who dreams of becoming a ballerina and her friend, Victor, who wants to become an inventor.

Félicie (Elle Fanning) yearns to audition for the school of the Paris Opera Ballet and Victor (Nat Wolff) aims to invent a wearable instrument that would enable flight. The 11-year-old protagonist follows her heart and travels to Paris with Victor. Unfortunately, as they reach Paris, the two of them get separated.

The journey of Félicie after reaching Paris, how she makes it to ballet school and finds Victor sums up the plot. In Paris, Félicie befriends Odette (Carly Rae Jepsen), a former ballerina who becomes her trainer. Félicie is constantly reminded to never give up and to take big risks.

This adventure fairytale-like film does not stay away from the clichés of the genre which makes the story highly predictable. However, the soul-stirring narration manages to keep one emotionally connected.

Paris is shown through the eyes of the newcomers to the city, which gives the film a refreshing outlook. The panoramic shots of Paris along with the dance sequences make it peppy and gives one the desire to travel and explore.

Moana (2016)

“Moana”, starring Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson is the perfect Disney movie to watch during summer. The enthusiastic performance of the characters, the amazing music and the vibrant depiction of Polynesia and its culture are a few reasons why the movie is a great watch.

In this film, a 16-year-old daughter of the island chieftain, Moana, crosses the ocean in order to save her homeland. This Disney princess, who is an explorer at heart, travels a long way to keep her people safe from the monsters in the seas that surround them.

She goes in search of Maui, a demi-god, who has stolen the cornerstone of all creation: the heart of Te Fiti. Unless the heart of Te Fiti is restored, the destruction of the Polynesian islands will not stop. The movie deals with Moana's journey as she tries to end the destruction. The voyage Moana goes on will make one want to sail and go on the adventure with her.

The narration, along with mind-blowing animation, will keep your eyes glued to the screen. If you are not going on a vacation, this is a go-to film to experience summer right on your couch.

Finding Dory (2016)

Directed by Andrew Stanton with co-direction by Agnus Maclane, ''Finding Dory'' is a sequel to the 2003 computer-animated drama ''Finding Nemo''. Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a sidekick in the fiirst movie is the central character in this part. Dory, who was living with her mom (Diane Keaton) and dad (Eugene Levy), wandered off one day.

In this film, amnesiac fish Dory journeys in search of her parents. Her odyssey takes her to a wide range of places under the ocean, where she meets different sea animals who help her reunite with her parents. As she reaches the Australian reef, she meets Marlin and Nemo, who aid her in finding her family.

Though highly predictable, the storyline is packed with surprises, which makes the film an interesting watch. ''Finding Dory'' celebrates and embraces differences, through the multi-dimensional portrayal of Dory's disability. This is an adventure film that one can enjoy with a bowl of popcorn at home on a hot summer afternoon.

Alpha and Omega 5: Family Vacation (2015)

“Alpha and Omega” is an eight-part computer-animated series about a family of wolves. In this part, Omega wolf Humphrey (Justin Long) and alpha wolf Kate (Hayden Panettiere) take their pups on a vacation to Alfred Creek Falls. They find themselves in a cross-country chase when wolf trappers spot them. The vacation turns into an adventure as they try to find a way out.

This film, released on DVD, gives a whole new perspective through the eyes of animals being chased by government trappers. With some sequences from the previous episodes played as flashbacks, this film will touch your heart. The wolf family is depicted with unbelievably human traits that could let one build a connect with them as the film progresses. The relationship between the wolf family and other animals stresses on the importance of co-ordination, unselfishness and love.
