The rupee lost 8 paise to Rs 61.91 against the dollar in early trade today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to appreciation of the US currency overseas.

The rupee had slid 8 paise to end at 61.83 on Friday due to month-end dollar demand from importers and some banks.
