RCom rolls out Android CDMA phone

Reliance Communications (RCom) and the China-based Coolpad Overseas, rolled out a fully loaded Android (Éclair) CDMA phone, D530, in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Sami Al-Lawati, Managing Director, Coolpad Communications, said it would utilise the large customer base of Reliance's CDMA by introducing more products at an attractive price. (The company had entered into a marketing tie-up with Reliance for distributing its handsets in India in October 2009).

The phone will be priced at Rs.7,999 and has facilities of wi-fi router for multiple users in a home environment.

Rakesh Singh, Hub Head, Wireless Business, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Reliance Communications, said the handset would be retailed through Reliance World and Reliance Mobile stores.

R&D centre

Mr. Al-Lawati said the company was planning to set up a research and development (R&D) facility in India by December 2012 with an investment of Rs.100 crore.

The company also launched two non-Android models T230 and T20 priced at Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 3,400 respectively.
