Sensex down over 25 points in early trade

The BSE Sensex on Friday lost over 25 points in early trade, extending losses for the second straight session due to sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend in other Asian bourses.

The 30-share BSE benchmark index, which had lost 317.39 points on Thursday, fell by 25.83 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 19,299.53 in the early trade.

Similarly, the wide-based the National Stock Exchange Nifty declined by 14.50 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 5,837.75.

Brokers said, sustained selling by funds amid weak trend in other Asian bourses in line with overnight losses in the U.S. market, mainly influenced the trading sentiment here.

In the Asian region, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was down by 0.50 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei index shed 0.31 per cent in the morning trade today.

The U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.34 per cent lower in Thursday’s trade.
