Rupee up 10 paise against dollar in early trade

September 19, 2014 10:01 am | Updated 10:01 am IST - Mumbai

Extending its rising streak for the fourth straight day, the rupee strengthened by 10 paise to 60.74 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market on continued selling of the American currency by exporters.

A higher opening of the domestic equity market also supported the rupee but the dollar’s rise against other currencies overseas capped the gains, dealers said.

On Thursday, the Indian rupee ended eight paise higher at 60.84 against the greenback following late dollar selling by exporters and a strong rally in local shares.

In previous three sessions, the rupee gained 29 paise.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose 73.39 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 27,185.60 in early trade.
