The rupee moved down by 6 paise to 61.65 against the dollar in early trade on Thursday on increased demand for the US currency from banks and importers.
A higher opening in the domestic equity market and dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas capped the fall, dealers said.
The rupee had ended six paise higher at 61.59 against the dollar in Wednesday’s trade.
