Ford slashes EcoSport price

The prices of Ford EcoSport, both petrol and diesel variants have been slashed.

US car maker Ford has announced a significant price reduction for its compact SUV EcoSport in the light of intensifying competition in the segment. This comes three days after the commencement of bookings for top car maker Maruti Suzuki’s new compact SUV Vitara Brezza, which comes with a starting price of Rs. 6.99 lakh.

Under the price revision, EcoSport’s petrol variants will be lower in the range of Rs. 53,700 to Rs. 87,400, while the diesel variants will be lower by a whopping Rs. 1,12,300. Probably, this is the first time the U.S car maker has effected such a huge price reduction in response to competition. Thus, the starting price of EcoSport (petrol) will be Rs. 6,68,800 (ex showroom, New Delhi), while diesel model’s starting price will be Rs. 7,28,800.

Both diesel and petrol models come in five variants. "With enhanced value for money proposition, we are extending its appeal across segments, including Rs. 6-8 lakh price band which has been growing at 40 per cent since 2013,” said Anurag Mehrotra, executive director (marketing, sales and service) at Ford India.Maruti has commenced bookings for its new compact SUV Vitara Brezza, which promises a mileage of 24.3 km per litre, claimed to be the highest in the SUV category.

It has launched only diesel variants priced in the range of Rs. 6.99 lakh - Rs. 9.68 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Ford EcoSport comes with a mileage promise of 22 kmpl for diesel variant and 16 kmpl for petrol variant. It also offers up to six airbags in some variants.
