Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on Monday unveiled two new models — hatchback Punto Abarth and crossover Avventura, both priced at Rs.9.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), as part of company’s plan to re-establish the brand in the Indian market.

“India is a strategic market for us. We are confident that these two new category defining models from Fiat stable would catch the fancy of the car enthusiasts and perk up sales during the festive season,” Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India Automobiles said

He added, “All these are part of the jigsaw that we are putting together. We are understanding what is needed for Fiat to be great again in India.”

The Abarth Punto comes with a 1.4 litre petrol engine with a power of 145 bhp, enabling the hatchback to touch 100 kmph in just 8.8 seconds. The company said this is the first hatchback to break the 10-second barrier in the country. The Avventura, which is powered by Abarth, will also sport the 1.4 litre petrol engine, generating 140 BHP of power, reaching the 100 kmph mark in 9.9 seconds, making it the fastest cross in the country, Fiat claimed.

Stating that India forms “massive part” of the company’s plans, he said, “we are really determined to bring more upmarket products here.”

In 2014, Fiat Chrysler had announced plans to launch 12 models in India in five years. In August this year, the company had launched its premium sports hatchback Abarth 595 Competizione priced at Rs.9.85 lakh, while its Jeep model is expected to roll out in the second quarter of 2017.
