Domestic air traffic grew at a robust rate of 26% in April with various airlines together ferrying 11.5 million passengers, up from 9.1 million in the same month last year, as per government data.
Budget airline SpiceJet was at the top position yet again in terms of seat utilisation per aircraft with 95.5% seats being booked. It was followed by IndiGo (91.9%), GoAir (89.5%), Vistara (88.8%), AirAsia (87.5%), Jet Airways (85.6%) and Air India (84%).
As far as punctuality was concerned, IndiGo was ahead of all the airlines with 86.6 % of its flights arriving and departing on time. SpiceJet and GoAir were a close second with 86.1% of their flights operating on time. Jet Airways showed an improvement with 82.9 % flights being punctual compared with 75.2 % in March. It was followed by Jet Airways (78.4%) and Air India (76.4%).

IndiGo ferried 4.5 million passengers, cornering 39.8% of the market share. Jet Airways came second with 14.7% market share, Air India fourth with 13.3% share and SpiceJet fifth with 12.4% of the total pie.
More than 81,000 passengers were affected due to flight delays, over 14,000 due to cancellations and almost 1,100 because of being denied boarding as a result of which the airlines spent a total of ₹23.6 million to compensate passengers.
