Rolls-Royce Motor Cars on Friday introduced the extended wheelbase version of the iconic luxury car ‘Ghost' with prices starting from Rs.3.04 crore. The company hopes to increase its sales to include India as its top-5 markets globally.
While the price for standard Ghost starts from Rs.2.07 crore, the extended wheelbase model combines segment leading cabin space with the driver dynamic along with a panoramic sunroof. The super-luxury car comes with lambs-wool carpets and multimedia theatre-configuration.
“India is one of the key markets for us. Globally, it is in the top 10 markets for us and entering the top 5,” Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Regional Director (Asia-Pacific) Paul Harris told journalists here at the opening of its new showroom in Delhi. He, however, did not share India sales figure. Last year, the company had sold 2,711 units worldwide. Its top-5 markets in 2010 were the U.S., China, the U.K., the UAE and Japan.

Mr. Harris said Rolls-Royce was targeting 100-unit sales a year in India as it was possible considering the economic growth the country had witnessed. “Our progress is towards that desire and we are happy with that,” he added. The company, which re-entered the Indian market in 2005 after an absence of 50 years, sells ‘Phantom' and ‘Ghost' models in India.
About the recent recall order of its ‘Ghost' model for a possible fire hazard, Mr. Harris said the Indian market would also be covered under it. “We are already in touch with the customers here and the process is in progress,” he added.
Earlier this month, Rolls-Royce announced that in the US it was recalling 589 units of the ‘Ghost' model, manufactured between September 2009 and September 2010, because of a faulty circuit board that can lead to overheating of water pump and even lead to vehicle catching fire.
