Indo-British JV in Sri City begins export

An Indo-British joint venture firm in the Sri City special economic zone, about 70 km north of Chennai, on Thursday, announced the first shipment of coated ceramic products from its unit.

The consignment of 75,000 mugs, to be sold for 12 pounds apiece, is the first shipment from the SEZ to the U.K., according to Ravindra Sannareddy, Managing Director, Sri City (P) Ltd. For the joint venture firm, RN Photocoatings Pvt Ltd, the order was important as it happened within six months of the unit being set up. The primary target export markets for the company, its director Varun Tripuraneni said, were Europe and the U.S.

Addressing a function organised here, in which British Deputy High Commissioner Mike Nithavrianakis flagged off the shipment, Mr.Tripuraneni said at full capacity the unit would produce 25 million mugs a year. Of the four production lines, one was installed and the capacity now was 2-3 million mugs, he added. A joint venture of A.T.Promotions, manufacturer of promotional and business merchandise in the U.K., and Tams Fine Ceramics Pvt. Ltd., set up by Indian investors along with British partners, RN Photocoatings Pvt. Ltd. intends to “exploit the booming demand globally for high quality ceramic products that have been pre-coated to make them printable ,” a release said.

Tams Fine Ceramics Pvt. Ltd. is setting up a plant in Tirupathi to produce ceramic mugs.
