Vihaan Networks ties up with Indonesia's PT Tower

Published - April 06, 2011 10:32 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

India's ‘green' telecom tower manufacturer Vihaan Networks Ltd (VNL) on Wednesday said it has signed an agreement with Indonesia's PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure (TBIG) for providing telecommunication infrastructure solutions in that country.

“The new infrastructure and service solutions to be introduced by VNL and TBIG will improve services to operators and general public by providing infrastructure using VNL's solar-powered WorldGSM mobile tower solution for voice as well as data (broadband). It will spread mobile telecommunications in Indonesia with greater cost-effectiveness and efficiency,” VNL Chairman and CEO Rajiv Mehrotra said.

“With vast land mass and many islands, Indonesia is suitable to utilise VNL technology in order to expand telecommunications coverage to rural areas. Indonesia and India have a lot of things in common in terms of need for telecommunications coverage as both countries have many regions with rural characteristics. We have successfully used this technology in India and it will benefit the people of Indonesia as well,” Mr. Mehrotra added.

According to TBIG Chief Executive Officer Hardi Wijaya Liong: “VNL's unique technology will cut costs by reducing cost of ownership for running towers. It will enable mobile operators to expand their coverage to the regions that have been difficult to reach due to technical factors like maintenance costs and availability of electricity in such areas. This collaboration will promote mobile penetration in rural population and improve regional economic activities.”
