Samsung on Wednesday launched two new smartphones, aimed at consolidating its position in the fast-growing hi-end mobile handset market. The next generation touchscreen phones — Wave and Galaxy S — come with the latest applications and features, priced at Rs.19,100 and Rs.31,500, respectively.

“We are introducing ‘bada' (ocean in Korean), our new mobile platform, that will be the key driver for our global smartphone strategy.

“In the coming months, we will launch more hi-end handsets to further consolidate our position in the Indian mobile market,” Samsung President and CEO (South West Asia) J. S. Shin told journalists here.

While Wave has been launched on the ‘bada' platform, Samsung's proprietary open operating (OS) system Galaxy S functions on the Android platform.

Samsung's ‘bada' open-ended platform allows mobile users to simply and easily download an abundance of applications from Samsung Apps, an integrated application store accessible from the device and online. Both smartphones come with the world's first Super AMOLED display, delivering excellent screen experience on a smartphone, besides 1GHz powerful processor for best graphic performance and intuitive TouchWiz 3.0 user-interface, giving users instant access to their mobile lives.

According to Ranjit Yadav, Director (Mobile & IT), Samsung Electronics, “we have been focussing more on open OS mobiles recently since many key characteristics of smartphones are becoming more and more important, especially mobile internet, messaging features, strong 3rd party applications and flexibility for customisation.”
