Dell to focus on IT solutions market

January 18, 2011 10:08 pm | Updated 10:08 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Dell on Tuesday said it would focus more on becoming a complete IT solutions provider besides consolidating its leadership position in the computer market. Last year, Dell became the country's largest PC vendor with a market share of 16.7 per cent. “As we undertake a bold transformation to be an IT solutions player from being a PC maker, we see great opportunities in the way we can help customers use technology…we now have our strongest-ever products and services portfolio and we have added new skills and capacities and added significant IP through our acquisitions,” Dell India President Ganesh Lakshminarayanan told journalists here.

The computer industry, he said, was at a critical inflection point that would redefine the types of products and services customers demand from their technology providers, including greater mobility, virtualisation, cloud computing and ubiquitous data capacity and access.

“We are addressing this industry change, listening to customers and using that insight to create innovative technology solutions that help them succeed,” he added.

According to Dell India General Manager Mahesh Bhalla, “We are entering new product categories like smartphones and tablets with our Streak and XCD range. With respect to the SMB business, we are coming fast and strong with comprehensive product offerings — be it our Vostro range of desktops or laptops.”
