In the first year, CII's ‘employability bridge' will help around 100 companies from Tamil Nadu to identify potential candidates for fresh recruitment from over 30 colleges based out of tier-II and tier-III cities, said CII-TNSC Chairman, N.K. Ranganath, on Monday.
He told reporters: “We are not playing the role of a job portal or assuring jobs to students. But, we have roped in industry and academia to offer the right kind of training to enable students of these cities to increase their employability quotient. Besides we will also conduct career awareness programmes, explain about the job opportunities and their roles. The first set of successful students will get job offers by October.”
The training would be offered to the students of engineering and management streams. The cost would be shared by the students, industry and academia in the ratio of 47 per cent, 18 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.

“Currently, we have teamed up with six colleges in tier-II and tier-III cities covering 2,000 students. In the first phase, our target is to cover 10,000 students from 30 colleges that will help about 100 firms to find the right kind of candidates. Later, it will be extended to 50 colleges covering 20,000 students and to colleges in southern region,” he said.
‘Employability bridge' was launched by CII in 2011 to ensure quality education to students, and help industry and academia to identify the right talent for recruitment purposes.

Ambalavanan Ramachandran, Director of Surgeforth Technologies, said that they have tied up with the PPGInstitute of Technology, Coimbatore, DMI Engineering College, Chennai, SKR Engineering College, Chennai, SRG Engineering College, Namakkal, JJ College of Engineering & Technology, Tiruchi, and SACS M.A.V.M.M. Engineering College, Madurai.
He also said that using the ‘employability bridge' platform, students would be provided employability training on industry-driven competencies, comprising classroom sessions, e-learning and self-assessments. The industry would provide the students with opportunities such as internship, projects or jobs. Students participating in the programme would get certificate on their employability skills.
“The initiative is to cover technical skills such as embedded systems, VLSI design, telecommunications, e-governance, networking technologies, office applications and also soft skills with focus on enhancing professional readiness and employability. Later, it will be extended to other domains such as life sciences, bio-technology and civil and structural engineering.”
