Carrier-Midea India, a joint venture between Carrier and Midea, is launching its home appliance products under the Midea brand in India over the next one week.

This is in addition to the air-conditioners, under Carrier and Midea brands, that would be sold in both residential and commercial segments.

“In the beginning, the home appliance products we are offering would be microwaves and water dispensers. We believe that with the current confusion over cap on cooking cylinders, our microwave models which can cook, grill and tandoor will catch on,” said Krishan Sachdev, Managing Director, Carrier Midea India. “We are specifically launching at this time, and not in February, as the end-of-year sales in South India will help us in positioning the brand,” he added.

The joint venture, in which Carrier holds a 40 per cent stake, recently started production at its new manufacturing facility at Bawal, Haryana. The products would be available across a thousand outlets in the top 30 cities. “We will initially import products from China in addition to manufacturing them here as setting up a separate home appliances plant at this point is not feasible,” Mr. Sachdev said.
